One critical mistake is many people often treat dieting as a temporary thing. This is often the FATAL BLOW to your rapid weight loss dreams. This is because if you treat eating healthily (or dieting) as a short term goal, you may diet for 3 days to a week, and then subconsciously go back to your poor eating habits since in your mind you have achieved your “diet”. Hence, you should focus on changing your long-term lifestyle habits instead. Incorporate healthy eating into your daily lives, making it a habit and a way of life instead of a one off thing. Most of the time, they merely focus on the appearance factor, often neglecting the other critical reason they should have to embark on their weight-loss journey – which is to get better health. Focusing on many reasons instead of merely one would give you the needed burning desire and drive to push you across the barrier, and help you achieve quick weight loss results. This is a simple point, but powerful indeed, as everything begins from having the correct mindset.

Procrastination and excuses

It is human nature to sometimes procrastinate and make excuses. However, by doing so we are actually creating an even larger stumbling block to our weight loss goal. One major excuse people like to give themselves is “oh, since I already had a poor diet this weekend, I shall just start my diet on Monday” or “since I had an unhealthy lunch early this afternoon, I guess its ok for dinner to be unhealthy since I already destroyed my dieting plans for the day”. This is absolutely a HORRIBLE excuse to give yourself. It is natural for people to sometimes consume slightly more calories at certain times of the day. In this case, you should be eating less for dinner to make up for the unhealthy lunch, and not continue to “screw up” the rest of the day (simple logic, but often overlooked as people LOVE excuses). So keep that in mind, and be aware of the excuses you like to give yourself.

Unaware of their calorie intake
People may tend to overlook the amount of calories they are getting, often due to either ignorance or negligence. Start having a calorie notebook and jot down your calories intake for the day. To find out how much calories in certain foods, you can go to http://www.calorieking.com. It is a extremely useful site that I personally use.
