A 72 Hour Emergency Kit – Common Tips

The first thing most people do in order to achieve emergency preparedness is making an emergency disaster kit. This kit should include all the items you might need in the case of emergency. Many survivalists say that an emergency kit should include supplies for you to survive at least a 72 hour period of time. Three days are a critical period during most disasters. In most cases emergency people are able to rescue your family during this period of time.

That is why it is recommended to make sure that your emergency kit will allow your family to survive for 72 hours. And it is also advisable to make sure that all the items you have in your emergency bag are quality ones. Do not purchase low quality foods or equipment. Emergency gear is aimed to save your life and that is why you should not compromise on their quality. You are investing money into your safety.

The first thing to get is a top quality backpack or bag to keep all your emergency items in it. This backpack should be water resistant. When you get a backpack for emergency purposes you need to figure out how much weight you are able to carry on your back. Depending on your physical abilities you should choose items to put into your backpack for emergency purposes.

Some items for you to consider are listed below. First of all, you need to have a tent or some other kind of shelter. Do not forget about a good first aid kit with a first aid manual. The manual should be read before an emergency as well. You should also have enough water for your family to survive the first three days after a disaster. A sufficient supply of foods is also required. Try to choose foods that are high in nutrition and low in weight. It is also better to choose foods that do not require cooking. Some warm blankets could also be beneficial, especial for people who live in the northern areas.

Do not forget about lightning as well. You will need a flashlight and some light sticks. Some matches and candles could also be very helpful. Working gloves and dust masks are also required. A cordless radio with additional batteries is a must have for emergency purposes.

You should also get some sanitation items like toilet paper and wet wipes. Strong waste bags should also be on hand for various reasons. Make also sure you have a note pad and a pencil to write down important information.
