Is your family ready to possible emergencies, power outages and various injuries? Do you have all the required supplies including a first aid kit? Do you know how to treat common injuries like cuts, wounds, burns and the like?
It is highly important to have some basic first aid supplies and medications in your house. Having a first aid kit is crucial for surviving possible emergencies and disasters. Make sure that your emergency supplies are properly organized and are always kept on hand. You need to be able to access them easily and quickly if needed. You should let all your family members know where your emergency and first aid supplies are being stored. Teach your kids and other relatives how to use them.
Each family has its own unique needs and therefore each family emergency kit should be different. At the same time there are some basic items that should be found in all emergency kits and we are going to list some of them below.
It is important to have a sufficient supply of prescription medication and any other supplements your family members take on regular basis. Make sure you also have a good flashlight with additional batteries. A portable radio is also an important thing to have. You need to be able to receive important information during emergencies.
Make sure you also get some waterproof matches, candles and a kerosene lamp. Get enough fuel for such a lamp too. Be careful with these items and keep them away from children.
At least one fire extinguisher is something you must have in your house as well. ABC extinguishers or dry chemical ones work well for all types of fires. Make sure all your family members practice using it. Keep an eye on the expiration date as well.
A rope ladder could also be very handy. Make sure you get the one that is able to hold your weight. You might need a rope ladder to exit upper floors of your house. It is recommended to have a ladder slightly longer than required for multipurpose use.
Additional blankets and sheets are also very important to have during an emergency. They could be used to keep your loved ones warm. Blankets or sheets could also be used for transporting injured people.
A first aid kit is crucial as we have already mentioned. Make sure your first aid kit includes burn relief cream, sunscreen, antibiotic ointment, sting relief lotion, some gauze pads, bandages of various types, sharp scissors, some safety pins, and cotton balls. Do not forget about diarrhea remedies, aspirin, antibacterial soap and water purification tablets. Some bleach is also required.
You may also want to add some other items to your emergency bag and your first aid kit.
