All of us want to take care of our families and loved ones. We do care about safety of our children and other family members in day to day life. An important factor in achieving safety is emergency preparedness. And it includes having an emergency action plan with every family member knowing what to do during a disaster.
To be prepared people should be well informed and aware of possible hazards. This is especially important for family with kids. Try to develop a checklist for emergency purposes and discuss it with your family. We are going to help you put important items into this list.
One of the most important things is a first aid kit. Make sure you have the one in your house, in your car and at the office. It is never possible to predict where an emergency could help you. Both kids and adults could get cut or burned and you need to have urgent treatment for these injuries. Make sure your first aid kit includes bandages, gauze, antiseptic solutions, some antihistamine preparations and phone numbers of local emergency services.
You need to teach your children what to do in possible emergencies. Discuss possible disasters with your kids. Show them what should be done step by step in such situations. Your kids need to be able to use the phone. They should also know what numbers to call in emergency situations. Show them how to use fire exits in your house. It is better to train the regularly, so that the information stays fresh in their heads.
You might not be able to pick your kids up from school or day care during an emergency. That is why you need to find a reliable friend to do this for you. Teach your kids a secret word or sentence this person should say for them to know that he or she is worth trusting.
Emergencies could be of different types. And even though we are not able to do a lot to avoid natural disasters we still could take certain steps to reduce the risk of fires and other emergencies like that. In many cases fires occur due to problems with electricity. That is why you need to get your electrical linings and fuse boxes professionally checked on regular basis. All faults need to be fixed immediately. You should also unplug all electrical equipment when leaving the house.
You should also teach your children how to use electrical appliances safely. Make sure matches, candles and flammable items are stored away from the children. Teach your kids to use fire extinguishers as well.
There are a lot of things you could do to make your house a safer place and to achieve emergency preparedness.
