Are They Nuts? Anti-hyperactivity Prescription Drugs As A Solution For Obesity.
By FTS_author on May 28, 2009 in Interesting Weight Loss Discovery
In a move driven by falling Ritalin profits and other ADHD drugs in children, Big Pharma are now looking for new ways to sell their poisonous and unhealthy products.
Drugs used to treat hyperactive children, such as Ritalin, are being recommended as a way to help solve the obesity crisis.
Certain doctors now claim a chemical imbalance in the brain caused by undiagnosed ADHD is preventing those severely obese patients from having the willpower to lose weight. The solution is ADHD drugs to help with weight loss.
This is nuts!
It is well known that ADHD drugs such as Adderall, Ritalin and Concerta do lead to weight loss. That’s one of their most well known side effects.
As a matter of fact, during the 1960’s, Adderall was marketed as a diet pill and many well-known celebrities used it for quick weight loss. Researchers found, in 2007, that if adults took Ritalin before a buffet lunch, they ate 11 percent fewer calories and 17 percent less fat.
As Obesity rates continue to get higher all over the world, drug makers are lining up to make their move for the trillion dollar per year weight loss industry.
But is taking these prescription medication as weight loss miracle pills a risk you are willing to take?
Candy or psychiatric drugs? Not much difference, as availability is increasing daily. But while one may increase your glucose levels, the other may just devastate your health.
ADHD drugs stimulate your central nervous system, which can lead to:
• Increased blood pressure
• Increased heart rate
• Increased body temperature
• Increased alertness
• Suppressed appetite
After a few years, other severe problems such as cancer can develop as seen by a study produced by the University of Texas, in 2005, which showed chromosome damage in 12 children who had taken Ritalin for just three months.
This fact is not news to the powers that be. In 1993, the National Toxicology Program released results showing mice fed high levels of Ritalin caused liver tumours, including rare and highly malignant cancers plus long lasting changes in brain cell structure, function and stunted growth.
There is also evidence of hallucinations, heart attack, stroke, increased aggressive behaviour, suicide, and even sudden death in other Ritalin related drugs.
To claim that undiagnosed ADHD causes obese people to NOT lose weight and then using a psychiatric drug to “solve” the problem, in no way addresses the root cause of weight loss but certainly lines the pockets of interested parties.
If you wish to address obesity at its source, you will need to focus first of all on:
· Your diet
· Using exercise as a drug instead of stimulants
· Learning to understand your emotional state much better (the WHY you got obese in the first place.)
As for ADHD, one can also look to:
· Increasing omega-3 fat
· Avoiding, juices, soda and pasteurized milk
· Eliminating or restricting processed foods, sugars and artificial colours and flavours
· Getting more sunshine
I’m no doctor, but common sense and advice from those who have researched the issues and found other solutions to drug use, seems like the best advice to make, especially for losing weight safely.
